Adelaide Festival receives record Helpmann Nominations

19 June 2018

Adelaide Festival is thrilled to have received a record 20 nominations for this years’ Helpmann Awards – Australia’s most distinguished national Arts Awards – with winners being announced on July 15 and 16 in Sydney. This represents a staggering increase of 13 nominations on our 2017 Helpmann Award nominations.

Adelaide Festival Co-Artistic Director Neil Armfield’s Hamlet led the pack with seven nominations including Best Opera and Best New Australian Work. Bangarra Dance Theatre’s Bennelong, which was performed as part of the 2018 Adelaide Festival, also received seven nominations including Best New Australian Work.
Adelaide Festival was the most nominated of any major Festival in Australia, and second most nominated company in the awards – proving once again the reach and recognition Adelaide Festival has on a national stage.

“For the second year running, opera leads the South Australian charge at this year’s national Helpmann Awards, with the Adelaide Festival’s production of Hamlet scoring seven nominations — the same number as its 2017 presentation of Saul.” – The Advertiser
