AUSTRALIA

Hundreds of species of eucalyptus. One impossible love story.

Based on Murray Bail’s Miles Franklin Award–winning novel, Eucalyptus is the story of a widowed father, his beautiful daughter, and the competition to win her hand by naming the hundreds of species of eucalyptus in the woodland he has obsessively created.

Enter composer Jonathan Mills’ ethereal world of bowed cymbals and vibraphones, timpani played with fingertips and the slide whistles of owls at night. With a spare and poetic libretto by Meredith Oakes, this concert performance of Eucalyptus summons the sounds of Australia’s natural world to set the spirit free.
