For more than six decades, Adelaide Festival has brought artists, audiences and ideas from around Australia and the world together in Adelaide. In 2027, we build on that tradition with the inaugural Adelaide Festival Exchange – AFX: a new gathering for conversation, creative exchange and connection.
AFX is a space to encounter new work and new thinking, forge relationships and create opportunities for artists and organisations.
Across two days, AFX will bring together artists, cultural leaders and creative thinkers for keynote talks and provocative conversations about art and creativity today; artistic showings and presentations of new work in development; and opportunities to connect and reconnect with peers from across the country and around the world.
At its heart is an interest not only in what stories artists are telling, but how they are telling them, what happens when artists challenge established modes of expression and take creative risks, and where we should direct our creative energy next.
Exchange also means looking beyond the arts. Over time, AFX will create opportunities for conversation and collaboration between the cultural sector and other parts of our social and economic life.
That conversation begins in 2027 with the inaugural Adelaide Festival Business Breakfast on Friday 5 March. Bringing together leaders from business, government and the arts, the Breakfast will explore the indispensable role Adelaide Festival – and the unique festival ecology that has grown around it – plays in South Australia’s economic and civic life, and the opportunities to build on this remarkable cultural inheritance for the decades ahead.
