When Cameron Carpenter sits down at the grand organ of Adelaide Town Hall, expect the whole city to lift off. The fantastical and flamboyant organist will unleash the great keyboard concertos of JS Bach, as well as a selection of Preludes and Fugues, as il Pomo d’Oro propels his performance to even grander realms.

One of Europe’s most dynamic baroque ensembles, il Pomo d’Oro makes its Australian debut with a program featuring two extraordinary soloists, exclusively for Adelaide Festival. The prolific and multi-award-winning period-instrument ensemble will be joined by virtuosic cellist Giovanni Sollima and organist Cameron Carpenter for two dynamic programs during its Festival residency. Named after the splendour-steeped opera by Antonio Cesti (‘the golden apple’), il Pomo d’Oro’s performances encompass all there is to love about baroque repertoire. After bringing Pygmalion Ensemble for its Australian debut in 2026, we are thrilled to introduce you to the virtuosic exuberance of il Pomo d’Oro.

il Pomo d'Oro will also be performing in Al bunduqiyya - The Lost Concerto.

Cameron Carpenter is a trailblazing organist whose virtuosity and imagination have redefined the possibilities of his instrument. The first organist nominated for a GRAMMY Award for a solo album, he has performed at leading venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House and Berliner Philharmonie, and with orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony and Boston Symphony. A graduate of The Juilliard School, Carpenter is also the creator of the International Touring Organ, a revolutionary digital instrument of his own design. His acclaimed recordings, bold interpretations and exhilarating performances have established him as one of the organ world’s most distinctive and captivating musical voices. Carpenter and il Pomo d’Oro make their debut performances together at Adelaide Festival ahead of an international tour in November 2027.

il Pomo d’Oro is one of the world’s leading period-instrument ensembles, celebrated for its dynamic and authentic interpretations of Baroque and Classical repertoire. Founded in 2012, the ensemble brings together outstanding specialists in historically informed performance and has built an impressive international touring and recording career, with more than 40 recordings, many award-winning. Alongside many of the world’s foremost conductors and soloists, regular collaborators include Joyce DiDonato, Jakub Józef Orliński and Giovanni Sollima. Combining stylistic brilliance and irresistible energy, il Pomo d’Oro has become a thrilling presence on concert stages around the world.
