Belgian violinist Marc Bouchkov shines brightly among the next generation of musicians. In honour of the bicentenary of Beethoven’s death, Bouchkov unites with Australian pianist Aura Go for a performance that explores his influences and legacy. After the 1816 Sonatina in D by Franz Schubert, a devotee of Beethoven, we are invited into Bouchkov’s exploration of JS Bach’s transcendent Partita No. 2. A microcosmic symphony contained in one violinist’s hands, the work unveils the harmonic genius that would later inspire Beethoven.
The concert culminates with Beethoven’s incomparable Kreutzer Sonata. Pairing the violin and piano in a setting reminiscent of a violin concerto, Beethoven woos us with the timeless melodies and daring passion that have won over audiences for the past 200 years.
Belgian violinist of Russian-Ukrainian heritage, Marc Bouchkov is a sophisticated artist blending research and study with highly emotional musical input. Highlights of the 2025/26 season include his debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, performing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto under Louis Langrée, as well as a series of recitals with Mikhail Pletnev in Madrid, Barcelona and Salzburg. The season also featured appearances with the Liège Royal Philharmonic and Lionel Bringuier, including concerts in Liège and at Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, a return to the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and performances at the Verbier Festival in Shenzhen.
On 6 November 2026, Bouchkov will release his new album, From the Beginning, on Orchid Classics. Deutsche Grammophon Gold has published his live performances of Ysaÿe sonatas and concerto from the Verbier Festival. He also recorded an all-Mendelssohn album with pianist Claire Huang-Ci for Berlin Classics. His first album on the harmonia mundi label featured two premieres by Eugène Ysaÿe and two works composed by Bouchkov himself, and was awarded a Diapason d'Or and a Diapason Découverte. A close collaborator of living composers, he has also recorded chamber music by Igor Raykhelson and two violin concertos by Alexey Shor.
Bouchkov performs on a Giovanni Paolo Maggini violin from 1630.
