Latvia

Latvian Voices and Adelaide Chamber Singers unite in a vibrant musical journey between Latvia and Australia in the celestial acoustics of St Peter’s Cathedral. Traversing the luminous choral worlds of Ēriks Ešenvalds, Laura Jēkabsone, Luke Byrne and Carl Crossin, this evocative program blends Latvian folk traditions with Australian soundscapes, culminating in the world premiere of a new work by Laura Jēkabsone, commissioned especially for this performance.

Latvian Voices

Be transported to ‘the land that sings’ in these three awe-inspiring programs from Latvian Voices.

This world-renowned ensemble of ethereal singers blends Latvian folk songs with exquisite, modern a cappella arrangements. Imbued with the rich musical heritage of Latvia – home to a 2027 Cultural Capital of the World, Liepāja – these luminous performances showcase that most inventive and profound of instruments: the human voice.

Latvian Voices will also be performing in Sacred Chord and Timeless.

Latvian Voices is an acclaimed a cappella ensemble drawing on the rich choral heritage of Latvia, a country known as the “land that sings”. Led by composer and artistic director Laura Jēkabsone, the six-voice ensemble brings together Latvian and Baltic folk traditions, original compositions and contemporary a cappella arrangements. Since forming in 2009, Latvian Voices has performed in more than 35 countries, appearing at venues including the Elbphilharmonie, Berlin Konzerthaus, Leipzig Gewandhaus and Kennedy Center. Their performances combine beautifully crafted harmonies with warmth, playfulness and a deep connection to the singing traditions of their homeland.
