Adelaide Festival 1 - 17 March 2013

Van Dyke Parks and Special Guests

Featuring Adelaide Art Orchestra
Exclusive to Adelaide

Unites States / Australia

“...his music can be the epitome of populist, in the strong folk tradition, braiding together calypso, bluegrass, vaudeville, ragtime and more... magical.”

Decades before the term Americana was even invented, Van Dyke Parks’ all-embracing musical vision expanded far beyond folk and country. This inexhaustible talent may be best known for working on The Beach Boys’ legendary ‘60s masterpiece Smile; his arrangements have also helped shape albums by artists as diverse as Joanna Newsom, Scissor Sisters and Silverchair. Performing a career-retrospective of songs from albums such as Song Cycle, Discover America and Clang of the Yankee Reaper and accompanied by the Adelaide Art Orchestra, Parks’ set features a special guest appearance by Daniel Johns – the former collaborator he nicknamed Young Modern – and celebrated pop-princess Kimbra. A uniquely eclectic and daring musical adventure.
