Kids’ Day

"I loved storytime and dressing up!"
Evie, 6

Join us for a day of stories, paintings and games under the trees and in the company of a rather gorgeous giant frog. Kids’ Day this year features a Story Tent where writers from around Australia and the world read books, spin yarns and sing songs. Little artists can make watercolour paintings and those a little older can use a real letterpress for poster making. The Little Big Book Club presents It’s Rhyme Time and children of all ages can enjoy giant puzzles and games under the trees. Come along and enjoy this celebration of words, numbers, colours, pictures and parades!

Story Tent at Adelaide Writers’ Week
The Story Tent is back! Drop in for a visit or stay for a while and you’ll hear some amazing storytelling. Under our tent you can listen to a story, learn a song, or watch someone draw a comic. Along the way you’ll meet a very grumpy bear, an angel, an elf troll and a whole lot more.

Nylon Zoo
Come and enjoy the magical experience of the Nylon Zoo at Adelaide Writers’ Week. Children of all ages can fly like a bird, hop as a frog or rabbit, twirl in a rainbow cape, swim like a fish or bobble like a hoopla mushroom. The costumes fit all ages and are designed to make you move. After a parade through the garden, children can enter the giant inflatable frog and listen to a story.

Evelyn Roth, originally from Vancouver Canada is the creator and producer of this children's event "Nylon Zoo" in which groups of children don animal, bird, insect and vegetable costumes for a dance parade and then they sit inside the inflatable story theatre for a story. Evelyn designs and sews all the costumes, each designed for a particular dance movement - flying as birds, hopping like kangaroos, frogs and rabbits, bobbling like mushrooms, twirling butterflies and bats. The inflatable frog, hand stitched with unique colour arrangement and shapes making a kaleidoscope of moving colour to all that sit inside its belly.

Story teller Greg Wood, who also operates the Black Cockatoo Art House at McLaren Vale, is an incredible entertainer, who writes and animates his own original "Green" stories. Evelyn Roth's Nylon Zoo is based not only in Australia but also in Canada, New Zealand, USA and Hawaii. These have entertained 1000's of children and adults around the world since its beginning in 1982 at the Brisbane Commonwealth Games.
