Alastair Campbell worked as a journalist before working for Tony Blair - first as press secretary, then as official spokesman and director of communications and strategy from 1994 to 2003, and later as a political adviser. He now splits his time between writing, speaking, politics, consultancy and charity work. He has published ten volumes of diaries, two memoirs on depression and four novels.
