Joseph & James Tawadros

Celebrated oud virtuoso Joseph Tawadros is joined by brother James (Arabic hand percussion) in a program of original compositions inspired by the Arabic modal system with elements of western classical, jazz, folk, metal and bluegrass. From furiously paced numbers to beautifully introspective tracks, including The Bluebird, the program beautifully blends cultures and musical traditions.

The telepathic rapport shared by the brothers is evident in every duet.

About Joseph and James Tawadros

Six-time ARIA Award-winners the Tawadros brothers aren’t afraid to try new things. Challenging traditional musical forms and pushing boundaries, they bring an exciting performing dynamic to the stage.

The Tawadros brothers are from a musical family and were brought up in environment which encouraged music and individuality. They are recognised worldwide and have performed in some of the world’s most prestigious venues with celebrated artists such as Roy Ayers, Bela Fleck, Richard Bona, Zakir Hussain, Andreas Scholl, John Abercrombie, John Patitucci, Jack DeJohnette, Joey DeFrancesco, Richard Tognetti and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Sultan Khan, the Academy of Ancient Music, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Camerata Salzburg to name a few. They have recorded 19 albums and been nominated a record 19 times in the ARIA Awards, winning a two hat-tricks in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and again in 2020, 2021, 2022.

Together they perform the original music of Joseph Tawadros. Joseph's Middle Eastern flavoured compositions constantly push the boundaries of melody and metre and are a rare combination of highly emotional music intertwined with boundless energy. True musicianship of the highest degree.
