In May 2024, young people across South Australia will vote on the topic for our next Create4Adelaide project, which will determine the focus of school activities and resources, their own artwork and an exhibition of their work during the 2025 Adelaide Festival. Philanthropic giving supports the participation of category 1-4 (lower socio-economic) schools, including funding artist workshops and residencies.

Adelaide Festival has always boldly taken on the challenge of finding new names, the ‘rising stars’ of the international arts world. Young director Mario Banushi (Goodbye, Lindita) is just one example of the new talent that Adelaide Festival introduced to audiences in 2024.

Our Associate Director, Wouter Van Ransbeek, ‘discovered’ Mario Banushi, seeing his work on a tiny stage in Athens. With Wouter based in Amsterdam and Artistic Director Ruth Mackenzie CBE based in Adelaide, we have year-round access to artists and work in both the northern and southern hemispheres. Even so, costs to research and secure new artists for Adelaide Festival have increased dramatically in recent years.

Each year, Adelaide Writers’ Week (AWW) builds on its incredible free offering. In 2024, for the very first time, AWW Director Louise Adler AM and a contingent of Australian writers have been invited to represent AWW at Hay Festival at Hay-on-Wye in the UK. This presents an incredible opportunity for AWW to forge international connections for our 2025 program and beyond.

In March 2025, AWW will again present new opportunities for debate and discussion with writers and thinkers from across Australia and around the world. This much-loved event is only possible thanks to the year-long, sustained effort from our dedicated creative team and the support of our community.
